A Thousand Words

Summer is almost upon us and here at LAND Gallery we are excited to announce our latest collaboration with Sherman Artists Association

A Thousand Words

Photographs by Cynthia O’Connor

Opening Reception: Friday 31st May: 5pm – 7pm

For over twenty years Cynthia O’Connor has been a professional photographer, capturing weddings, events, as well as her own fine art photography. This show is a collection of photographs from the past years and many of them are award winners.  The images represent O’Connor’s travels from Africa to New England, from California to New York City, and many places in between. Some of them tell the story of a profound and stark reality in our world – the orphan elephants – and some of them are masterful fantasies created with Intentional Camera Movement or Multiple Exposures that help one lose themselves in swirls of colors and layers that are nothing less than joyful!

Cynthia says “I’m passionate about everything I do, and I’ve always sought to convert my talents into something beneficial to others. All around me, things call to me deeply. I need to look inside and find the soul of what or whom is before me. What catches my eye is embedded, the beauty, irony, humor, or the melancholy. I must capture it, understand it, and share it, that feeling…that moment.”

A true photographer, her camera is always to hand, as she endeavors to capture not just what she sees but what she experiences from what she sees. “I hope my vision brings a meaningful connection to all who see my work, to what surrounds us all, and what we all have deep inside us.  I hope the viewer can find something that touches their heart, as these have touched mine.”

Upcoming LAND Gallery Events

“SEEING” – Photowalk and Workshop

Saturday 22nd June, 10am – 1pm

Gallery owner Jane Haslam will be leading a photowalk in the Village of Pawling on Saturday 22nd June in partnership with the Pawling Library.

The workshop is open to all and will be focused on finding composition in an everyday environment. Participants will meet at LAND Gallery for a brief presentation before taking a walk around the Village Farmers Market to put the ideas into action. The workshop will then conclude back at the Gallery with a short discussion about the experience and opportunities.

Jane Haslam’s Photography has been a fixture in the Village of Pawling since 2014 and the craft has been part of her life for as long as she can remember. She is originally from Derbyshire in the UK and for many years she maintained her own darkroom, photographing the post industrial landscape around her home and mainly working in black and white. In those formative years she particularly admired the work of British photographers Fay Godwin and Bill Brandt, as well as that of iconic American landscape photographer, Ansel Adams. With the advent of digital photography and finding herself out of work, her focus totally shifted and she set up in business in the North of England, providing wedding, event and sports photography services. In 2009 she married Nate, an American citizen and emigrated to the United States. She has lived and owned a photography business in the Hudson Valley ever since.

Sherman Art Fest

LAND Gallery on the Road

Friday 21st – Sunday 23rd June

Opening Reception: Friday 21st June: 6pm – 8pm

LAND is trying something new for this Summer – we are going on the road and taking our canopy to Sherman, CT in order to take part in the third Sherman ARTFEST, sponsored by the Sherman Artists Association. This show is both indoors at Charter Hall, (above the Sherman Firehouse) and outdoors at the adjacent Town Green. This will be our second time on the road, but the first in an outdoor environment so we are looking forward to showcasing our work in a new setting. If you have chance please come out and support us as well as all the other fabulous artists who are setting up there for the weekend
