MARCH 2024

Photographs and Improvisations:

Opening Reception: Saturday 2nd March 5pm – 7pm

Artists Talk: Sunday March 24th

LAND Gallery and the Sherman Artists Association are pleased to announce a new show by photographer Jim Stasiak  ”Photographs and Improvisations”.

Jim’s photographs of a simple leaf take one into a new dimension of seeing, emotion, and expertise. He believes that digital applications are specialized tools that can expand the creative range and perception of the artist in an intuitive, beneficial manner.

Stasiak is an award-winning photographic artist, musician and printing arts professional living in New Milford, CT. His photography spans documentary, creative, travel and constructed imaging, using film since 1965, digital since 1995, and fully digital since 2002. He has taught photographers and artists how digital tools affect the photographic process, how traditional skills can translate from the physical to the metaphysical, and how to optimize images to best utilize the technical considerations inherent in producing digital art.

“Photography is a revealing art. I rely on emotion and expertise to recognize an image, and skill, taste and judgment to reveal an energetically attractive interpretation.” says Stasiak.   Much like jazz improvisation, his work evolves in stages which focus and intensify his emotional connection with the emerging image. There is always a blend of conscious decision with mindful guidance. He wants the viewer to perceive new context, new color, new structure, new projections and new feelings–and improvise with their own mind’s eye.

Stasiak’s show is the first in a new monthly program of events in partnership with the Sherman Artists Association, a non-profit organization with aims to promote the visual arts and enriching the cultural life of the Sherman community. Here at LAND we are excited to see how this cross State (ny/ct) partnership can develop, as well as introduce the work of some extremely talented photographers, artists and artisans to a new audience.

Take Home a Piece of the AT in Pawling

In addition to Jim’s work the gallery walls will also feature the work of our current photographers and artists, Jane Haslam, Linda Hubbard, Kelly Edwards, Rebecca Tocci.

In the front of the gallery our Take home a piece of Pawling wall will feature images of the Appalachian Trail which winds it’s way through Pawling passing features such as Nuclear Lake, Cat Rock, The Dover Oak, The Great Swamp and Pawling Nature Preserve. In the back of the gallery our newly expanded wall space will feature the usual selection of high class Hudson Valley photography, artwork and handmade items..

Did you know that LAND also maintains a curated artisanal gift gallery and we are proud to represent a number of outstanding local artisans. Whilst we have plans to introduce new names to our offerings in 2024 all your existing favorites are still with us.

Pawling based, Ed Bryan of Hudson Valley Woodworking is a huge supporter of LAND, he is currently traveling in England, being involved with various workshops and we are very excited to see how his work will develop this year on his return.

Holmes based Genevieve Jan is the engine room behind Fathom Soap Company, we introduced her to Pawling late in 2022 and it’s incredible to see her progress over the last 12 months or so.

Thank you so much for reading this and supporting the Gallery. We look forward to welcoming you back and can’t wait for you to see all the new work we have for you in 2024.
